With more than 25 years of experience in private piano lessons for beginners - late intermediate, Catharina provides award-winning instruction to her students at Catharina's Clackamas piano lessons in Clackamas, OR. and is known as one of the best piano teachers locally.
She is motivated by her love of music and her passion for transferring her knowledge and skills to others for their enjoyment so they may shine. For over 25 years, Catharina has taught music in Public Schools in South Africa and America, produced numerous school concerts, worked on a part-time basis as a professional musician, songwriter, worship leader, and recording artist, and taught beginner piano lessons for kids to late intermediate as well as adult piano lessons. She was born in South Africa and received her Bachelors of Arts from Potchefstroom University H.C E. in 1977 and her Post Graduate teaching diploma from Rand Afrikaans University in 1978. Her accomplishments include the production of school musicals and performing music for President Lucas Mangope of Bophuthatswana at Sun City on December 31st, 1989. Catharina and her husband recorded their songs on CD and have played their music on South African TV, Radio Pulpit, and locally on MCTV, Portland, OR.

Because of my background of working for over 25 years with children from pre-school through high school as a music teacher and piano teacher and performing at numerous venues as a professional musician, recording artist, and songwriter, I understand the importance of creating a friendly, safe, and stimulating learning environment for my piano students! I love my students and try my best to bring them to their full potential as skilled pianists while building up their self-confidence in a nurturing atmosphere. I love to praise my students when they play piano at school talent shows, churches, and recitals, at home for their family and friends, or simply play the piano for their beloved pet! My grandson took piano lessons with Cathy and started at age four. Not only did my grandson grow as a piano player he gained more confidence in himself. Playing and practicing the piano was not a chore but rather an activity he performed happily and voluntarily. Cathy was able to impart her enthusiasm and love of playing the piano onto my grandson. Rather than work directly from a piano lesson book, she customized the music and lessons to his current skill level while at the same time providing challenges to keep the learning process going. He had more incentive and motivation to practice and play.
I was able to observe the last few minutes of most of my grandson's lessons. This is where I witnessed the wonderful connection that developed between teacher and student. Cathy would relish in my grandson's accomplishments and acknowledge each newly learned measure of music.
She is very proud of each student as was evident during recitals. Each student, regardless of their level of knowledge, performed their piano piece with excitement and enthusiasm. It was evident that Cathy encouraged each student to bring part of his or her own character into the music. Cathy made learning the piano a magical thing. Cathy is not only friendly and patient but also is good at gauging her students’ level of knowledge and ability.
Her commitment to her students is evident. Cathy sees each student as an individual and draws upon their strengths to teach them in ways that work best for them. I respect Cathy for many of her qualities but most of all because she can connect with her students and is a very positive and encouraging teacher who is able to make confident self-motivated piano players out of her students. I highly recommend Cathy as one of the best piano teachers in my area and am envious of her future students who can experience her contagious passion and love of music firsthand.
